Soap Made with Beef Tallow and their Benefits
Share
At "Tropical Glow", we enjoy making soap utilizing organic beef tallow.
Historically, it was a very common ingredient in soap making. Tallow
derived from beef fat is a natural fat that can be rendered to remove
impurities, making it shelf-stable and suitable for both cooking and soap
making. It was a popular choice for soap because it created a hard, long-
lasting soap with a creamy and moisturizing lather.
You may wonder, why use beef tallow?
Beef tallow is derived from animal fat, contains a rich fatty acid profile that mimics the skin's natural sebum, offering moisturizing and protective benefits. It also contains vitamins like A, D, E, and K, which are beneficial to the skin.
Does soap made with beef tallow have a strong smell?
No, we only utilize beef tallow that has been rendered and strained correctly to remove impurities that could contribute to a strong smell. Soap made with beef tallow typically has a subtle, fatty smell, often described as similar to older, traditional soaps. We add fragrance and essential oils to make it even more pleasant, plus offering you the option to enjoy a variety of different fragrances. For example, a lot of our male customers really like our "Volcano Charcoal" cold process body soap scented with sandalwood vanilla fragrance oil.
Does beef tallow seem a less common ingredient in soap compared to soaps
made just with vegetable oils?
Well, give soap made with beef tallow a try. You will like how good it feels on your skin. It is a great addition to your skin care routine. Having choices is wonderful because you can enjoy the benefits of different types of ingredients in the soap you use until you find your favorite. Why not, enjoy them all? I personally like using natural soaps made with beef tallow, and also soaps made with natural oils and butters. Each has its unique properties and benefits.
Moisturization: Tallow acts as an emollient, softening the skin and helping
it retain moisture. Its fatty acid composition mimics the natural oils
found in human skin, making it a good moisturizer.
Skin Barrier Support: The fatty acids in tallow can strengthen the skin's
barrier, helping it protect against environmental stressors and reduce
moisture loss.
Anti-Inflammatory Properties: Tallow contains fatty acids that can help
reduce inflammation and soothe irritated skin, potentially benefiting
conditions like eczema and psoriasis.
Antioxidant Benefits: Grass-fed tallow, in particular, is rich in Vitamin
E, an antioxidant that can help protect skin from damage caused by free
radicals.
Nutrient Rich: Tallow provides essential vitamins and nutrients that
support skin health and promote a healthy, radiant complexion.
Potential for collagen production: Some sources suggest that tallow can
help stimulate collagen production, potentially contributing to anti-aging
effects.
Non-comedogenic: Tallow is generally considered non-comedogenic, meaning
it's less likely to clog pores.
Give tradition a chance as this ingredient has been used for centuries, before modern, mass-produced soaps existed. Luckily, beef tallow has gained more popularity due to its many skin-nourishing benefits.
